One year ago on 1 August 2015, Elmbridge Borough Council created England’s first building control mutual – Elmbridge Building Control Services Limited (EBCS). For the last year EBCS has successfully provided the Council’s building control services and managed the applications from developers in Elmbridge including residents and businesses.
Elmbridge Borough Council has a highly qualified and dedicated team of Building Control officers who help residents and developers to understand and apply building regulations. The building control team has a wealth of local knowledge, such as ground conditions and drainage details that help get plans to approval. The benefit of Mutual status is that it has allowed the building control team to improve their service, to offer greater flexibility, to price competitively and so to compete with private building control inspectors
Mark Webb, Chief Executive of EBCS, is proud of the progress to date; “ We have worked very hard this last year to give the residents of Elmbridge, a market leading service and greater flexibility so they can be reassured that their buildings meet the necessary health, safety, welfare and insulation standards. Looking forward we want to expand our services outside of the Borough and bring our skills to the rest of the country.”
Robert Moran, Chief Executive of Elmbridge Borough Council is the proud that the Council created England’s first building mutual; “ I would like to congratulate Elmbridge Building Control on its first anniversary and to thank them for their determination in creating and growing the Mutual.
